As a cosmetic enhancement procedure, BOTOX® is a nonsurgical treatment which is administered through a series of injections to temporarily reduce or eliminated unwanted wrinkles/frown lines between the brows. The treatment is approved by Health Canada and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Technically defined, cosmetic BOTOX® Cosmetic is a highly purified protein derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which operates to block the impulses from the nerve to the muscle, relaxing and reducing the lines that are caused by frowing and smiling.

BOTOX is injected with a micro-needle into the muscle(s) or areas that your individual needs require. The most requested areas of treatment and complaint are the forehead and outer eye area. After your treatment, you will usually see the effects of BOTOX within a few hours to three days.

Given its unique mechanism of action, BOTOX offers sustained relief, dose after dose. As far as long term effects are concerned, treatment with BOTOX can typically be repeated indefinitely. However, if you are pregnant or taking certain medications, you are not eligible to receive BOTOX treatments. Pregnant women should not get Botox.

BOTOX® should not be used in the presence of infection at the proposed injection site(s) and in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation. Patients with neuromuscular disorders such as ALS, myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects, and you must disclose these and other risk factors to our healthcare professionals before consenting to a procedure.

Within days, you may see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows. Lines continue to improve for up to a month, and results generally last 3-4 months. According to Allergan, the manufacturer of Botox® Cosmetic, in their clinical trials, nearly 90% of men and women rated the improvement in their appearance as moderate to better 1 month after treatment. Results do vary.

Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Prior to injecting, we will sometimes numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes. For the majority of patients, there literally is no downtime to the procedure, in terms of time off work or recovery time.

Although the results are visible, a treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you "had work done." The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.

If you do not continue treatments, the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows will gradually look like they did before treatment.
