Microdermabrasion is a mini procedure that involves the skin being "sandblasted" by aluminum oxide crystals, baking soda, salt or corn cob granules to remove the stratum corneum (top) layer of the skin; dead skin cells. Microdermabrasion also promotes the production of new cells in the basal (deepest) layer of the dermis.
What is microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion, also known as Skin Resurfacing, can reduce the effects of aging on our skin. Years of sun exposure and the aging process take their toll on the skin, creating wrinkles and changes in texture and color. Microdermabrasion removes the topmost layer of skin leaving it more supple and vibrant. It also stimulates the elastic tissue beneath the surface of the skin resulting in a healthier and firmer appearance.
Is a Medical-grade Microdermabrasion the same as the Microdermabrasion I get at a day spa or home microdermabrasion?
NO. Microdermabrasion machines are manufactured at two different levels: aesthetic-grade and medical-grade. Medical-grade microdermabrasion is regulatory or F.D.A.-approved for a deeper exfoliation, which translates into more impressive and lasting results for you. Because a Möcelle Edan Cosmetic Clinic is a medical facility, we are able to offer you medical-grade microdermabrasion.
Can Medical-grade Microdermabrasion treat acne?
Yes. Medical microdermabrasion can safely and effectively treat acne, oily skin, sun-damaged skin, fine lines and wrinkles, and provide a healthy exfoliation to the skin. However severe scarring may best be treated by other non-invasive medical procedures such as skin needling. You Möcelle Edan nurse or medical esthetician will assess you and prescribe the most appropriate procedures and treatment regimen for you.
What is the difference between microdermabrasion and dermabrasion?
As the prefix "micro" implies, microdermabrasion is a "micro or mini" version of skin abrasion. Dermabrasion often is performed in a hospital or clinic environment. It's much more invasive. So much more so that it often requires anesthesia and can require an overnight stay. Dermabrasion is done using a spinning metal wheel to "sand" down the skin. The recovery is much longer and more complex than microdermabrasion and can involve antibiotics, special creams, etc
