Lets consider the case of microdermabrasion. It would seem that everybody from multinational corporations to local beauty shops are marketing something they are calling ‘microdermabrasion’. The multinationals often offer an in-a-bottle proposal, while local beauty shops make their offer as low-cost services.  

These ‘microdermabrasions’ differ significantly from medical-grade micro dermabrasion. There are two keys things that determine the effectiveness of treatment. First is the quality of the material (crystal, sand, sea salt or nothing) used to abrate the skin, and second is the effectiveness of the machine (measured by whats called suction intensity). Sea salt and sand are not very hard materials, so microdermabrasion procedures based on this or other crystal-free technology have low effectiveness in dealing with skin problems. Often these treatments are no more effective than a regular deep pore facial, but costs a lot more.

So the question then is "What works?"

What works and what Möcelle Edan recommends and exclusively use is 99% silica-free pure medical-grade corundum crystals to perform dermabrasion procedures.    Corundum crystals is among the hardest substances found on earth; hence the reason this substance is more effective as a dermabrator than the other options out there.

However, hard crystals by themselves are not enough. You now need a medical equipment that is effective in delivering them, and that’s where the issue of suction intensity comes in. Suction Intensity relates to the vacuum control located on the microdermabrasion machine, and is a measure of the depth of exfoliation and rate at which crystals are pulled across to abrate the skin’s surface. Low-quality  equipments often have suction intensities of 1 to 30, whereas higher quality medical-grade equipments will have intensities of 1 to 100. This basically means that an establishment can in fact use high quality crystals but fail to deliver results because they lack a quality dermabrator with high suction intensity.

When shopping, you need to find an establishment that offers high quality in both the crystals they use as well as the equipment for performing the procedure.
